Hi! I’m Hailey.
I live on a small island off the Washington coast with my family and a most unruly garden. When I’m not writing and illustrating stories for children, you can find me out picking gooseberries, building forts with my son, and searching for four-leaf clovers.
I have a degree in fine art and creative writing which included studying under the celebrated poets Ben Lerner and Michael McClure, as well as painting, printmaking, sculpture and drawing.
My current manuscripts-in-progress include an illustrated picture book about a lonely gnome who wants a friend, a picture book about a man who learns a life lesson from a flower, and a middle grade Girl-Meets-Dragon story.
SOME FACTS ABOUT ME:
As a kid I had: a pet marigold that I rescued from a snowstorm, a pet rat that rode around in my pocket, a pet crow that I rescued from a bush. (I also had a pet turtle for a day, but that’s another story.)
I’ve been to the top of a 40’ sailboat mast; floated down the Mekong River in a raft; and been pushed from an airplane (with a parachute on - I couldn’t jump…)
I’ve found a five leaf clover.
